Tents & Tarps When looking for a tent for family camping, take into consideration not only the amount of space you all need to lie down on but also the amount of space your personal gear will take up. Then add in another foot! As a rule of thumb, do not allow any gear or person to be leaning up against the side of the tent in case of rain or even morning dew. Any moisture that hits the tent will surely soak through to whatever is against it. Tarps are going to become your friends. You should place a tarp that is a bit smaller than you tent underneath your tent to protect the floor – family camping brings in a lot of foot traffic in and out of the tent. You should also consider bringing spare tarps to cover things up in case of rain or to protect from the morning dew such as the wood, and kitchen gear. Click to return to Camping Gear.
