Campfire Safety

When family camping, safety around the campfire is essential!

  • Clear away any leaves or debris at least five feet away from the fire pit.
  • Keep a bucket of water and a poking stick on hand.
  • Keep all firewood and anything flammable away from the campfire.
  • Most of all, make sure that the campfire is attended to at all times.

When extinguishing the fire, pour buckets of water onto the fire…the ashes are very hot so make sure that the water penetrates all the way down to the ground.

Remember that the rocks or metal around the fire will be very hot even after the fire is out, be sure to keep little ones away from the pit until you’re sure it’s safe enough. Click here to return to Campfire.
